Hi!

My name is Holly Secon. I’m a writer with a strong background in local reporting, researching, and editing based in the San Francisco Bay Area. My work has appeared in a range of publications, including the New York Times, Insider (formerly Business Insider), SFist, GreenBiz, Discover Magazine, LiveScience, Chapman University Magazine, AOL, MSN, and ScienceAlert, among others.

I mostly write about California, our changing climate, sustainability, and science at large. I’ve also covered breaking news, crunched numbers for data stories, and written podcast and video scripts.

I’m available for freelance reporting assignments at a competitive rate. I also work with clients on sponsored/branded content writing, educational course product development, ghostwriting, graphic design, and consulting. My current clients range from tech startups to PR agencies to universities to consulting firms.

Well, here’s some more about me. As an observant, curious people person, I enjoy making the impersonal personal — whether that’s finding a local angle to an international news event or exploring the nuance and human impact of global phenomena such as climate change. My work aims to uncover, inform, and engage.

I’m well-versed in digital media and social media, as well as cultivating diverse sources and working quickly on deadline.

I’m open to new opportunities in journalism, design, and content writing. For more information, get in touch.
